What is Young Women Energized?
Young Women Energized (YWE) is the premier outreach program of Women’s Energy Network Houston. For over 20 years, YWE has worked to inspire and empower young women to pursue degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by providing impactful education and scholarship opportunities. We are dedicated to creating enriching learning experiences and community outreach initiatives that introduce female students to rewarding careers in the dynamic energy industry. In our pursuit, we not only aim to cultivate future leaders, but also strive towards building a more diverse and thriving energy sector.
YWE offers exciting programs designed to inspire high school young women and support their career ambitions, with the focus on the benefits of studying STEM and joining the energy industry. Sisterhood, mentorship, diversity, and inclusion are just a few core values that we practice at YWE. The program has received many accolades, including being named the 2019 and 2021 Best Outreach Program by World Oil.
Conference
Each fall, YWE hosts a conference for local middle and high-school students - particularly girls - and their families to learn about: the energy industry, the kinds of jobs available with STEM degrees, companies that employ women in STEM fields, and key skills needed for success in the industry. The event offers students, parents, and educators a jump-start to college and career planning with signature mentoring circles, interactive sessions, and inspirational stories from young STEMinists and recent scholarship winners, and college graduates.

Scholarships
Depending on the sponsorships we are able to secure each year, YWE awards as many as 10 young women a one-time $10,000 scholarship to pursue a degree in STEM. The scholarships provide financial support, build confidence, give encouragement, and create opportunities for these ladies who are the future leaders in our industry; thereby changing their lives and the communities in which they live.
